Dr Maria Puig de le Bellacasa confirmed as discussant

We are lucky enough to have Dr Maria Puig de le Bellacasa coming to the workshop to provide her insights on the papers being presented at Arguing with Justice.

Maria is based at the University of Leicester, where she is a Senior Lecturer in Science, Technology and Organisation. She has written several monographs, and her research focuses on how questions of ethics, politics and justice affect and are affected by the organisation of scientific practices and the cultural imaginaries of technoscience.

Call for papers now open!

This one-day workshop brings together early career researchers to examine the meanings, uses, and consequences of social justice ideals in biomedical practice and research. The papers will examine the increasing entanglements between biomedical and genetic research with ideas of social justice and inclusion – opening up discussion about social justice, science and medicine in the UK, as well as in a comparative global context.

Our key note speaker is Professor Jenny Reardon from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Reardon is the author of Race to the Finish: Identity and Governance in an Age of Genomics (Princeton University Press, 2005) and The Postgenomic Condition: Ethics, Justice, Knowledge After the Genome (forthcoming with Chicago University Press).

This is the new website for the upcoming Early Career workshop being held at the University of Warwick in Coventry on Monday 27th June 2016. Please keep an eye out for updates on the event, as well as information about our call for papers.

This event is being organised by Ros Williams and Amy Hinterberger, with the support of the Economy, Technology, Expertise research theme in the Department of Sociology at the University of Warwick.
