Dr Maria Puig de le Bellacasa confirmed as discussant

We are lucky enough to have Dr Maria Puig de le Bellacasa coming to the workshop to provide her insights on the papers being presented at Arguing with Justice.

Maria is based at the University of Leicester, where she is a Senior Lecturer in Science, Technology and Organisation. She has written several monographs, and her research focuses on how questions of ethics, politics and justice affect and are affected by the organisation of scientific practices and the cultural imaginaries of technoscience.

The call for papers is now open for the Early Career Workshop! Please circulate widely to those who may be interested. We will be offering some funding for ECRs who cannot secure their own institutional financial support.

Call for papers now open!

This one-day workshop brings together early career researchers to examine the meanings, uses, and consequences of social justice ideals in biomedical practice and research. The papers will examine the increasing entanglements between biomedical and genetic research with ideas of social justice and inclusion – opening up discussion about social justice, science and medicine in the UK, as well as in a comparative global context.

Our key note speaker is Professor Jenny Reardon from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Reardon is the author of Race to the Finish: Identity and Governance in an Age of Genomics (Princeton University Press, 2005) and The Postgenomic Condition: Ethics, Justice, Knowledge After the Genome (forthcoming with Chicago University Press).
